Senior Director of Content

Community.co is seeking a full-time Senior Director of Content to oversee operations of the editorial team consisting of 30+ remote members. You will directly contribute to the success of the team by fostering talent, driving accountability and ensuring the department strategy is geared towards growth while fulfilling short- and long- term objectives.

As a senior director, you are a great communicator on Zoom, phone, Slack and email. Engaging with team members, forming relationships, promoting collaboration, organizing meetings, and providing training are all priorities in this role. Supporting team members through your ability to lead, coach, and mentor will allow them to achieve success, stay motivated, manage challenges, and grow professionally. Key Responsibilities

  • Build and execute a recurring feedback loop for a growing team.
  • Develop individual and team wide goals (day-to-day, quarterly, project-based and beyond), and take accountability for exceptional performance by conducting regular check-ins.
  • Craft individualized career paths and evaluate results. Formalize recommendations and report out to the senior management/executive team.
  • Pursue high-potential talent and encourage cross department collaboration to provide resources and maximize strategic objectives.
  • Own internal communications on updates that impact the day-to-day of the team.
  • Manage performance through annual reviews, regular 1:1s, performance improvement plans, and career development in conjunction with HR and senior management.
  • Work with Directors of Content to ensure the department is adequately staffed and evaluate capacity.

 

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years in a people management role, preferably at a communications, PR, media, marketing or publishing company.
  • Experience managing larger teams (25+) and building leadership skills and career paths for direct reports.
  • Skilled at identifying and driving meaningful continued learning or career development initiatives.
  • Experience setting individual and team wide goals and giving/receiving feedback effectively, even in stressful situations, with an emphasis on personal accountability, transparency and empathy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, or similar software for task and process documentation
  • Experience owning internal communications/escalations for a growing team
  • Experience working in a remote environment
  • Editorial/media background a plus
